Downloads using the Royalty Free License

What does “Royalty Free” license mean?

This means you will only pay once for the media license of the photo and will be allowed to use it as many times as you like. You do not own the photo but you can also purchase these rights.

The following table charts will show the earning potential on Dreamstime as a photographer or graphic designer.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

An opportunity to generate Passive Income

Do you think you could find 100 photographers, illustrators or graphic designers through the internet? Social Media, maybe you have your own website or you good at promoting things in person? Perhaps you have a large email list of contacts you can just propose this to? How about putting an add in the paper or online for work opportunity (eg. “Looking for Photographers & Illustrators”) and people will approach you instead and you send them your referral link as a nice presentable offer.

Well, imagine if you were able to find 10 people that would start earning $100 per month selling their work on Dreamstime. This means you will also earn $100 per month simply because you referred them. Starting to see how this works? If those same people start to earn $1000 per month, you will also receive $1000 per month as you earn 10{87e56780531fb49397975d6ccdf5fd583fe12882c640bab7ecd9d9198b593911} of whatever they making. If you have 50 referrals that earn $1000 per month you will receive $5000 per month and so on. You are not even doing any work and getting paid just for referring individuals. Does that sound interesting?

You can earn an additional $250 – $5000 on the spot if you agree to sell your photo and it’s copyrights to potential worldwide buyers. It means you will no longer be able to sell this photo as explained in the Royalty Free license section but getting $250 once off for a photo you took is well worth it in my opinion. You will be surprised what kind of photos people buy so they can either keep it for themselves or resell it for profit on their own website/s or even through Dreamstime. There are many opportunities here! If you interested you can sign up here.

The Affiliate Program

Once you signed up and complete you profile you can go to “My Account”. On the bottom left under “Account Management” select the purple icon on the far left called “Referral program”. In this area you will see a lot of html coding, banners and links etc. somewhere in the middle of the page you will find your “Dreamstime.com unique Referral ID”. This is your digital ticket to success! Using this unique ID link you can invite anyone to Dreamstime.com.

Thank you for the excellent review. I have never heard of dreamstime before so will certainly be having a look. Do you have to be a photographer to be an affiliate? It sounds like a fun and simple way to generate some extra $.

      Hi Merry
Thank you for the compliment 😉

You don’t have to be a photographer at all to do the affiliate program but it really is fun learning how to take photos on a professional level not to mention the generous commissions from sending in high quality images. It really is an all-round opportunity.

If you need any assistance I will be glad to help you.

Excellent review of Dreamstime. I had not heard of it until now, but that is good to hear that they’ve been around awhile. I’ve tried another one where you can sell your photos for $5, but hadn’t had any success with that. I like thought that you can refer people and earn income that at Dreamstime. I like that it is free to join so I might just give a try sometime.

      Hi Brian

The photos that you load on Dreamstime have to be good quality images otherwise they end up being rejected or they can be offered for free through the website if you choose this option. Have a look at some of the guidelines on Dreamstime and check if your photos match up to their standards. If you take good quality photos and submit them regularly, you can earn a decent income.

    Hello Kamil,

I have one uncertainty which I would like to point out. Is Dreamtime applicable for people who owns a site or a blog but does not have the resources to have photos for their posts and articles? Or just a platform for people such as photographers who would like to get their images licensed as you mentioned?

    1. Kamil (Post author)

      Hi Tar

To address your uncertainty and answer your question. Dreamstime caters for both, individuals who own a website or blog and for photographers who want to license or sell their work. The site is not limited to photographers only, you can be a artist (drawing, painting, sculpting etc.), graphic designer, web designer, book illustrator, the list goes on. You can also earn a passive income by referring others to the site and earn 10{87e56780531fb49397975d6ccdf5fd583fe12882c640bab7ecd9d9198b593911} commission on all their work.

      Hope this answers your question.

      Thanks for stopping by 😉

Actually this looks like a really great and fun way to make some income doing someone that I like to do anyway, taking pictures. I am most definitely going to look into this and see if it something that I can do. I am no professional by any means, but I have a really good camera and I have taken some awesome pictures 🙂

      Hi

Yes I thought the same when I joined Dreamstime, that I had to be a professional photographer but it turns out you don’t. No doubt you will learn how to take better photos so more of them get accepted. At the start most of my images were rejected but this only encouraged me to learn how to take better quality photos. The affiliate program is fantastic because you can earn 10{87e56780531fb49397975d6ccdf5fd583fe12882c640bab7ecd9d9198b593911} commission from all your referrals so if you not a great photographer yet you can find ones that are and benefit by sending them to Dreamstime.

I was not familiar with Dreamstime. I sign up for two other sites last year but no results yet. I checked Dreamstime criteria’s and I am assuming that they don’t have a preference for the type of photo you send to them (as long as its not offensive)?
I know some sites that don’t prefer nature and landscape photos. From you’re experience what type of photo’s sells faster?

    1. Kamil (Post author)

      Hi Dira

I have noticed Dreamstime likes nature and landscape photos and also wild life. A good way to check which kind of photos are selling well is to look at their level, level 1 photos might be new or not selling so well but if you see a level 5 photo, it means its selling well so you can get an idea by selecting themes and mousing over the photos one by one to see their level. I would rather create photos they don’t have like abstract or objects you have at home.

I hope this piece of info helps.

I must say you offer a rather creative way of making some passive income with Dreamstime . I was thinking of how could I ever make money as i’m not a professional photographer. But yes, I could easily refer a handful of them from my circle of friends. I suppose you are also part of Dreamstime affiliate network. How does it work for you so far?

      Hi Kenny

      Thanks for stopping by.

As I’m not a professional photographer myself, I decided to focus on the affiliate program instead and in quite a short period of time I have seen great results.

My initial plan was just to share this with a few family members and friends but then I recognized a much bigger opportunity and decided to put an advert online for “Part time photographers needed – no experience necessary”… I get about 30 – 50 email replies a day inquiring for more information or asking how to sign up, then I just send them my referral link and offer my support. Out of every 50 people that inquire about 3 – 5 of them will sign up, about 1 out of 50 are professional photographers. Once they set up their account, submit their photos and start selling (which takes a bit of time), you will earn 10{87e56780531fb49397975d6ccdf5fd583fe12882c640bab7ecd9d9198b593911} commission on all their work.

So to answer your question, I am slightly overwhelmed at the potential here and still discovering more opportunities like the competition this month – ‘Take a crowd photo’ 1st Prize $300. 2nd Prize $200 and 3rd Prize $100. More info available on their website on how to enter.

      Quite an exciting platform! 🙂

      Best regards,

      Kamil

    Hi,
Thanks for sharing. This sounds like a pretty cool program. I have been pretty busy and tired from going to a 8-5 job so I haven’t done much of anything when I get home.

One of my hobbies is photography but since I have moved to another state, the enjoyment of photography isn’t as fun as my home state.

That would be cool if someone bought my photos though. Something to consider when I get back to my hobby again.

Thanks for your review on Dreamtime. As a semi-professional photographer I have thousands of photos just sitting on my hard drives and I feel that doing something like this could be really worth the effort. How does Dreamtime compare to other stock companies such as gettyimages and shutterstock? With so many options these days it is so hard knowing what will give me the best opportunity to sell my pictures.

      Hi Keldyn

Unfortunately I have not tried out the other 2 companies you mention here so I cannot compare them. I know Shutterstock by name but have not uploaded any photos there. I mainly refer photographers to Dreamstime and have not had any complaints yet. I would suggest you submit some photos to each of these companies and test out which one will work best for you. If you have photos sitting on the hard drive send them in 🙂

Currently Dreamstime is having a competition for “Crowd” photos, if you have any send them in, 1st Prize is $300.

I personally do enjoy photography. I didn’t know it was possible that I could make some income off of them. Is the completion quite high with other photographers? Luckily a couple friends also enjoy the trade, I could likely get some of them into it as well. What is the average commission you could make?

    Reply
    1. Kamil (Post author)

      Hi Jordan

It all depends on what kind of photos you send in, there won’t be much competition if you send in original and unique photos, eg. specific locations or events in your country no one else has access to or no one is taking pictures of and selling them online, a lot of people don’t even know about this opportunity so if you not a professional photographer you may want to focus on the affiliate option.

You earn 10{87e56780531fb49397975d6ccdf5fd583fe12882c640bab7ecd9d9198b593911} commission of all your referrals.

I wish i would be a graphic designer so that i also earn some extra cash from dreamstime. But i have a question that if i do not post any photos , still can i avail their affiliate programe?
One more ,,, does this program also display some real painted pictures to sell?

      Hi Arroj

You can definitely take advantage of the affiliate program which is what I do mostly because I’m also not a professional photographer or graphics designer. I find that most photographers are very grateful when you offer this opportunity as they usually have a portfolio which they can already submit and start earning.

Yes there are many photos and scans of art works on Dreamstime, paintings, drawings, sculpture, modern art etc.

This website looks interesting. It seem that there are more and more stock photo websites out there on the Internet nowadays. I am a photographer so this site is definitely of interest to me. It looks like a great opportunity to make some money on the side.

Thanks for this excellent review. I have always wondered if you will have to be a professional photographer to send photos ? Can you be learning and still earn as a photographer ? I think the best thing is to have a good camera first and foremost . What are your views on this ?

      Hi Rachel

      Thank you kindly.

You definitely don’t have to be a professional photographer but it helps a lot if you are. If your images sell you get paid regardless of experience but obviously you want to produce original and high quality photographs, graphic design, illustrations or art pieces.

Personally I have been using a “point and shoot” camera with 16 MP and it seems to produce high resolution and great quality photos. My uploading ration is not great as I made a mistake by uploading to many photos that were not considered stock quality so it seems one must become familiar with basics before they attempt to just load up random shots.

This has definitely inspired me to learn more about photography and producing higher quality pictures in the near future 🙂

I’m wondering… Is this the only stock photo site you use? I’ve been comparing different sites lately… mostly the cost to use the images. Right now, I’m using mostly BigStock… but I’m curious to know if you use both and if you could comment on the difference if so. I’m looking for the best user experience and the most inexpensive. Thanks for your review. It was helpful

      Hi Jackie

At the moment this is the only stock photo site I use yes so unfortunately I cannot make a comparison at this point. I mainly promote their affiliate program and have started uploading some photos.

I’m sure you will be able to compare prices for buying images if you go to the site.

Even though i am not a fan of photo submission sites, I can’t deny the fact that Dreamstime is one of the best out there. I have never hard or used Dreamstime before but from your excellent review I am able to compare with others like Shutterstock, Istockphoto, Fotolia etc. I will like to know how much they pay per referral, and what payment method the accept?

      Hi Michael

I honestly think Dreamstime is one of the best because they don’t only provide a platform for photos but many other opportunities like music tracks, graphic designs, art, drawings, sketches etc. There are many other options to earn here.

As stated in the review, you get 10{87e56780531fb49397975d6ccdf5fd583fe12882c640bab7ecd9d9198b593911} lifetime commission from all your referrals. So whatever they sell successfully, you will get 10{87e56780531fb49397975d6ccdf5fd583fe12882c640bab7ecd9d9198b593911}.
      Payments are processed through PayPal.
